The Woman in the Hazmat Suit

There she was, sitting in the airport in a hazmat suit.  Anyone who has not seen the photo has not been paying attention to the news.  The fear of Ebola has preoccupied many Americans, especially those who travel or come into contact with people who are potentially health risks.  It is impossible to watch the news or surf the Internet without hearing or reading coverage about the African Ebola crisis.  People are afraid of contracting the disease.

I am reminded of the statistic my pastor often uses to help us keep our lives in perspective; 100% of all Americans will die.  Think about it.  Are there any exceptions?  Of course not.  We know that our lives are limited on this Earth.  Everyone who is born will die.  And then what?

It is time for Americans to ask themselves what they truly believe.  If there is no God and this is your one-and-only life then be very afraid because you will eventually die and it will be all over.  Ebola, AIDS, D68, accidents and a myriad of events are out there in that very unforgiving world waiting to take your life from you.  And then, well one theory is that you will not care afterwards because you will be dead and all that is or was you will be completely gone.  In this reality, you are not even a speck of dust in the universe, as unimportant as anything can possibly be.  You come, you go, so what?

If that is what you believe the you need to get out your hazmat suit and put it on.  You must do anything you can to protect your life even at the expense of other living creatures or things because this is it.  forget anything that does not directly affect your life.  Your only concern about who runs this country or that country, this company or that company, this social group or that social group is how their decisions will personally affect your one-and-only life.  If you care about the lives of those who cannot improve your life, you are a fool.  If you work for the betterment of another life at the cost of your own resources, you are an idiot.  This is your one-and-only life and to sacrifice it for another is complete and utter stupidity.  Remember that you are inconsequential in the larger expanse of the universe.  Therefore, live like it.

However, if you believe that there is more to existence than this one physical life, what happens when it ends?  Are you searching for the answer or is your head in the sand?  To believe that this is not your one-and-only life yet do nothing to prepare for what will come after death is far more idiotic than the one who does not believe in God or an afterlife but sacrifices their one-and-only life for the life of another.  A hazmat suit will not save your life.  So what will…?
